v967 Antique Victorian Silver Tea Caddy by Sheffield silversmith Henry Stratford

Antique Victorian silver plated tea caddy from the late 19th century. Based on its distinctive "sarcophagus" shape and ornate engravings, it is likely the work of the renowned Sheffield silversmith Henry Stratford.
Design: A "waisted" or sarcophagus-style body with a stepped, hinged lid.
Engravings: Hand-engraved with floral and leaf patterns surrounding a central shield-shaped cartouche.
Finial: A dark, likely ebonized wood finial used as a handle for the lid.
Base: It sits on four decorative feet, in a bun style.
These caddies were produced in Sheffield, England, around 1894–1898. During the Victorian era, tea was a valuable commodity, and ornate silver caddies like this were status symbols used to store and protect loose-leaf tea.
The markings: "S' and Crown mark for Sheffield. "H.S" for Henry Stratford; "EP" for Electro-Plated Britannia Metal. 2329 probably design number.
