If you love antique rings with history, look no further! This intaglio is captivating and in great condition. The ring is high-Victorian, circa 1890s, Black rings were worn for many occasions at that time, so it is hard to know its precise history, and this one is completely unmarked. The 10k rosy colored gold looks central or northern European, and the intaglio is likely German or Italian, so our guess is that the ring is of European ancestry overall.
This ring has very fine carving depicting an ancient person, carved from grey stone? Intaglios are a type of carving used in jewelry, similar to a cameo, but instead of the carving standing out in 3D, the carving is recessed into the stone. This protects the carving, so the detail is intact all these years later. The intaglio is bezel set in a rose gold frame, with a closed back, making this a sturdy and secure setting for the ring. The ring is in very good antique condition, with only minor scratches. It is ready to be worn as-is and has no repair issues. The ring is not hallmarked ,but has pass acid test done by our jewelers.
